Programme objectives

The main objective of the study programme is to train 1st level graduates of a non-pedagogical study programme in Italian Studies or a related study programme to independently perform professional work in education. The study programme also offers to students the possibility to deepen knowledge and skills in the field of language teaching at all levels of teaching and learning. Postgraduate study programmes in this field are designed to include the individual research work of students which is directed towards theoretical and practical issues concerning education, training and teaching.

The study programme is interdisciplinary for it is linked to both, education and training sciences (in parallel) as well as disciplinary knowledge of language and literature (in succession). Both areas contribute to the creation of the profile of a teacher of Italian language for different levels of education and teaching related activities (counselling, monitoring and class management). It enables students to acquire the appropriate linguistic and pedagogical knowledge by studying theoretical and methodological concepts of Italian as a foreign and second language, Italian literature in Italy and in the world and intercultural communication.

 

Having the basic knowledge of pedagogical work and related sciences enables them to teach Italian at an early stage in elementary schools, or adult education.

Among the most important objectives of this study programme is encouraging students to continue their study interruptedly up to the doctorate (PhD).

Employability

Graduates of 2nd level Italian Studies (Pedagogical programme) are equipped with fundamental knowledge of the profession as well as with methodological approaches and orientation towards the pedagogical profession. They are also qualified for work in research institutions and as assistants in different research or applicative projects.

They have the possibility to be employed in environments where is requested a wide range of knowledge concerning social and cultural problems, phenomena and processes taking place locally, nationally and internationally. The possibility of choosing a great variety of interdisciplinary elective courses during the study enables them to coordinate social activities, cultural and educational institutions. They can be employed as teachers in elementary and secondary schools, teachers in institutions and companies dealing with educational programmes and teacher training, as curators-pedagogues in museums, galleries and other organizations and coordinators of cultural and tourist programs with an emphasis on didactic content, as organizers of adult education in educational institutions, as teachers for extracurricular activities, moderators, tourist animators, staff in national and international institutions, translators, reviewers, proofreaders.
