Department of Applied Linguisticsprint
About the department
The Department of Applied Linguistics offers study programmes in the fields of translation and intercultural communications, specifically, Intercultural Linguistic Mediation (on the undergraduate level) and Linguistic Mediation and Translation (on the postgraduate level). Students develop a strong knowledge of English and either Italian or French, and also choose an additional course in Chinese, Russian or Spanish. They acquire substantive theoretical knowledge in the fields of linguistics, translation studies and interculturalism and gain insight into the cultural environments of the languages they study. The members of the Department of Applied Linguistics come from a wide variety of cultural and linguistic backgrounds and research fields and are thus able to provide students with a solid sociolinguistic, cultural and technical understanding of language and translation.
